EMPHASIS: Missouri State Highway Patrol And Operation Lifesaver Team Up To Promote Railroad Safety
The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Troop D will be working with members of the Missouri Operation Lifesaver program in several cities and counties in Southwest Missouri to raise the awareness level for crossing safety and trespass prevention. This is accomplished by talking with motorists briefly in advance of certain railroad crossings, and reminding them about several safety tips as drivers approach crossings.
WHEN: Wednesday, January 18, 2012
WHERE: Various railroad crossings in Greene and Webster counties, including the cities of Springfield, Republic, Ash Grove, Seymour and Strafford.
WHO: The Missouri State Highway Patrol-Troop D, BNSF Railway law enforcement officers, Federal Railroad Administration and Operation Lifesaver personnel.
WHY: To help raise awareness of safety at railroad crossings and along tracks. Over the past three years, five crossing crashes have occurred in these two counties resulting in three fatalities and two injuries. In addition, three trespass incidents have resulted in two fatalities and one injury during the same time span.
