EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Checkpoint In Clay County On September 13, 2013


Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Friday evening, September 13, 2013. The checkpoint was a joint effort with the Kansas City Police Department. The checkpoint was held from 11 p.m. on Friday to 4 a.m. on Saturday and was located at U.S. Highway 169 at NW Harlem Road. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 1,109 cars were checked during this five-hour operation and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department made the following arrests:

19 -- DWI
5 -- driving while revoked/suspended summonses
1 -- misdemeanor warrant arrest
2 -- hazardous moving summonses
18 -- non-moving summonses
2 -- misdemeanor drug arrests
3 -- minor in possession of alcohol summonses
1 -- possession of a firearm while intoxicated arrest

Captain Powell stated, "The focus of law enforcement is to enforce all laws and apprehend violators. The goal of DWI enforcement projects is to deter impaired driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated."

The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
