EMPHASIS: Student Alliance Program Conducted At Clinton High School
On April 8, 2009, members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol completed a Student Alliance Program at Clinton High School. This is the second year the Highway Patrol has conducted the student alliance program at Clinton High School. The program consisted of troopers coming to the school, one day each week for six weeks. The interactive program gave the students a hands-on experience, which promoted good citizenship and showed them what career opportunities exist within the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Local zone members from the Missouri State Highway Patrol covered such topics as field sobriety testing, alcohol/drug impaired driving, and stop and approach. The stop and approach was a popular activity with the students, once again. The students experienced conducting a car stop. During this stop, the student encountered a trooper in civilian attire who was role-playing different scenarios. This gave the students an idea of what law enforcement officers are exposed to every day. Sergeant D. Scott Nace, of the Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control, provided students with information regarding crime scene investigation. Sergeant P.R. “Andy” Davis, a member of the Patrol’s SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) Team, showed the students the various tools used in manhunts, arrest warrants, and search warrants. The students were able to see the Patrol’s armored vehicle, also. The students watched demonstrations by Corporal R. Brooks McGinnis and Puki, a Patrol K-9 team.
A total of 20 students attended the Student Alliance Program. Mrs. House’s law class from the Technical School attended three of the six classes. Upon completion of the program, each student was presented with a certificate.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol would like to recognize and thank Principal Frank Dahman, and Counselors Dixie Wirsig and Matt Perry. Without their cooperation and continued support for this program and the Highway Patrol it would not have been a success.
