EMPHASIS: Troop I Announces Memorial Day Holiday Totals

Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the Memorial Day holiday traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop I area, which consists of six counties in South Central Missouri.
During the Memorial Day weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6:00 p.m., May 23, 2014, and ended at 11:59 p.m., May 26, 2014, Troop I officers investigated 27 traffic crashes, which resulted in 10 injuries and one fatality. Troop I officers made eight arrests for driving while intoxicated, issued 317 speed summonses, 135 seat belt summonses, and nine summonses for child passenger safety restraint violations. Troopers assigned to Troop I also issued 701 warnings for various traffic violations over the weekend and assisted 289 motorists.
Captain Kenley stated, “For one family in the Troop I area, the 2014 Memorial Day holiday will always be remembered for the loss of a loved one in a tragic traffic crash. Please help keep our highways safe during the remainder of the summer months by always paying attention when you drive and strictly following the rules of the road, which of course includes wearing a seat belt.”
In support of “The Drive To Zero Highway Deaths,” the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!
