EMPHASIS: 2007 Thanksgiving Weekend Traffic Crash And C.A.R.E. Totals For Troop I

Captain Randy L. Becker, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the Thanksgiving weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop I area, which consists of six south-central counties in Missouri. The five-day counting period began at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2007, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Sunday November 25, 2007.
During the 2007 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Troop I officers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). As a result of the long holiday weekend, Troop I officers investigated 27 accidents, which resulted in six injuries and one fatality. Troopers made two arrests for driving while intoxicated, issued 155 speed citations and 53 seat belt citations, and assisted 98 motorists.
Captain Becker stated, “The busy holiday season is here and many Missourians will be taking this opportunity to see family and friends. I want to encourage motorists to be extra cautious on our highways. Keep in mind that the best way to avoid a traffic crash is to always pay attention, slow down, and to never drive when impaired.”
