EMPHASIS: Troop I Announces May Enforcement Projects

Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces that during the month of May, Troop I will conduct both a sobriety checkpoint and a DWI saturation in Phelps County.
Captain Kenley would also like to inform the public that from May 2, 2013 through May 13, 2013, Troop I officers will be joining other Missouri law enforcement agencies during the Youth Alcohol Mobilization. During this period, officers will be stepping up enforcement efforts with a goal of removing impaired drivers from Missouri highways. With prom and graduation season here, Missouri law enforcement want to make sure Missouri youth are celebrating safe and sober. It is illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to possess or consume alcohol in Missouri. However, in 2011, Missouri traffic crash statistics for drivers under the age of 21 showed alcohol use by those individuals was a contributing factor in 20.2% of all the fatal car crashes in which they were involved.
In addition to the increased likelihood of being injured or killed, drunk driving has other consequences including; jail time, loss of driver license, being sentenced to use ignition interlock systems, higher insurance rates, attorney fees, court costs, lost time at work and school, and the potential loss of job or job prospects.
Captain Kenley stated, "It is unfortunate that so many lives, including those of our youth, are taken every year by impaired drivers. If you are the parent or guardian of someone who is under the age of 21, please remind them of the laws regarding underage drinking and of the consequences if these laws are violated.”
The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
