Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, announces the results of a DWI sobriety checkpoint conducted in Webster County on April 9, 2016. The enforcement location was selected based on the high number of drinking and impairment-related crashes, in addition to other traffic violations that contribute to unsafe driving behavior.

The DWI checkpoint, conducted on U.S. 60, west of Route VV, was a cooperative effort with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Webster County Sheriff’s Department, the Rogersville Police Department, and the Missouri Department of Conservation. During the operation, officers stopped 554 vehicles. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operation:

DWI Arrests -- 3
Seat Belt Citation -- 1
Non-Moving Citations -- 4
Driver License Violations -- 5
Uninsured Motorist Violations -- 3
Misdemeanor Warrant Arrest -- 1
Child Restraint Citations--3
Warnings -- 102

“Driving while intoxicated continues to be a major contributing factor of traffic crashes on Missouri’s roadways. Removing intoxicated drivers from our roadways is a priority to the Highway Patrol, and we take that very seriously. Please drive safely and always designate a sober driver,” stated Captain Villanueva.

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
