Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer, Troop D, announces Fourth of July weekend totals. As numbers statewide reflect deaths on Missouri roadways were down 36% (11 to 7), from the same time last year. Troop D posted zero fatalities for the 18-county troop, compared to four in 2008.
Troopers in Troop D investigated 44 crashes, 22 involving injuries during the three-day holiday, and arrested 16 subjects for driving while intoxicated. Over the weekend, troopers directed their efforts toward enforcing speed limits, seat belt laws, and arresting intoxicated and careless drivers.
The Highway Patrol continues to promote highway safety through education and enforcement of state statutes to ensure a safe traveling summer for all who travel Missouri roadways.
