EMPHASIS: Troop A Prepares For The Labor Day Holiday Travel Period

Captain Scott A. Shipers, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee’s Summit, announces upcoming plans for Troop A officers to participate in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). This means every available trooper will be on the road enforcing traffic laws and helping motorists in need of assistance during the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Additionally, Troop A officers will be conducting a special enforcement operation to maximize visibility on Interstates 70, 49, and 470, and U.S. Highway 50 in the Troop A area on Friday, September 4, 2015 and Monday, September 7, 2015. During this enforcement program, troopers will be targeting all traffic violations with a goal of reducing traffic crashes over the holiday weekend. Enforcement efforts on secondary roads within Troop A will be conducted during the same time frame.

The Labor Day weekend typically marks the end of the summer season. For many families this means traveling and spending time on various Missouri waterways. Thus far in 2015, Missouri is experiencing an increase in both traffic fatalities and drownings. While the Patrol is committed to reducing traffic fatalities and drownings through our enforcement and educational efforts, citizens are reminded to do their part. Pay attention to the job of driving, obey the speed limit, never drive impaired, and always use a seat belt! When in and around Missouri’s waterways wear a life jacket! By following these simple guidelines you can make a difference and help reduce traffic fatalities and drownings.

“We want everyone’s Labor Day holiday to be safe and enjoyable, especially as you travel on Missouri’s highways,” stated Captain Shipers. “I would like to urge all motorists to make sure safe driving is a part of your plans. Make sure everyone is wearing a seat belt, and never drink and drive. Should you be celebrating the holiday on the water, I want to remind everyone to ensure they are wearing an approved life jacket while in a vessel and don’t operate a vessel while drinking."

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Join us in supporting the Drive To Zero Highway Deaths. Watercraft operators should ensure everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!
