EMPHASIS: Missouri State Trooper Makes Drug Seizure On Interstate 70

On September 29, 2011, a 1997 Fleetwood motorhome was stopped by a state trooper for a traffic violation on eastbound Interstate 70 near the 171.2-mile marker in Montgomery County, Missouri. During the course of the traffic stop, inconsistencies and deceptive behavior of the occupants led the trooper to ask for consent to search the vehicle, which was denied. The trooper’s partner, K-9 Puki, was deployed to conduct an exterior sniff of the vehicle, which resulted in a positive alert for the odor of an illegal drug emanating from the vehicle. Based on the positive alert by K-9 Puki, the trooper searched the vehicle and located 75 pounds of marijuana.
Jeffrey D. Gilman, 63, and James S. Arrington, 61, both of Virginia Beach, Virgina, were arrested for second degree drug trafficking and were transported to the Montgomery County Jail.
The charge for which Gilman and Arrington were arrested is mere accusation and not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the above charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
