EMPHASIS: Troop C Labor Day And C.A.R.E. Holiday Totals

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, announces the Labor Day Operation C.A.R.E. totals for the Troop C area, which includes the 11 counties in the St. Louis area. The four-day counting period began at 6 p.m. on August 31, and ended at 11:59 p.m. on September 3, 2007.
During this holiday weekend Troop C officers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). During the counting period Troop C officers investigated 54 traffic crashes, which resulted in 22 injuries and three fatalities. This is a reduction from the 2006 Labor Day holiday during which 59 crashes were investigated, which resulted in 38 injuries and four fatalities. This year, Troop C officers arrested 35 motorists for driving while intoxicated, issued 659 speeding summonses, 164 seat belt summonses, seven child restraint summonses, and assisted 292 stranded motorists.
Captain Ronald S. Johnson stated, “Although we saw a reduction in traffic crashes in the Troop C area this holiday period, we still experienced the loss of lives on our highways. We strive to have safe roadways for our citizens, by removing impaired and hazardous drivers from our roads. Please remember to always make the job of driving your priority when behind the wheel. Obey the speed limit, always buckle your seat belt and designate a sober driver.”
