EMPHASIS: MSHP, Cardinals: On The Same Team When It Comes To Seat Belt Safety

Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, is pleased to inform the media of five public service announcements available on the Patrol's home page. Filmed in partnership with the Cardinals baseball organization, these short messages remind drivers that everyone in their vehicle needs to be properly restrained by a seat belt or child restraint. It only takes three seconds to buckle up. Dead is forever.

Cardinals players Matt Carpenter, Jon Jay, Joe Kelly, Shelby Miller, and Jason Motte joined local Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers at Busch Stadium to record the messages. Each message comes from the perspective that everyone can be a hero by buckling up.

"We very much appreciate the Cardinals baseball organization taking time from their busy post season schedule to film these important messages," said Colonel Replogle. "When it comes to seat belt safety we can all be heroes by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained."

In 2011, a Missouri driver’s chance of being killed in a traffic crash if they were not wearing a seat belt was 42 times greater than that of a driver who was buckled up. So far in 2012, of those who have been killed in crashes in vehicles requiring seat belt use, 64 percent have been unrestrained. The public service announcements can be viewed on the Patrol's website. Visit www.mshp.dps.mo.gov and select the "video library" link halfway down the right side of the page. The PSAs are also downloadable from that page as well.

The Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves from all types of hazardous drivers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Click It 4 Life!
