EMPHASIS: Results Of Pulaski County Sobriety Spotchecks

A total of 22 arrests were made and 50 warnings were issued as a result of two sobriety checkpoints held in Pulaski County, June 16 and 17, 2007. The first was conducted from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Missouri Highway 17, two miles north of Interstate 44. The second spotcheck, which was conducted on Missouri Highway 28, near the Gasconade River Bridge, followed the first and concluded at 3 a.m. The arrest totals for the spotchecks include one arrest for driving while intoxicated and three arrests for outstanding misdemeanor warrants. Traffic arrests during the operations included eight citations for failure to wear a seat belt, two for hazardous moving violations, two for nontraffic offenses, one for a driver’s license violation, and two not having proper vehicle insurance. During the course of the spotchecks, troopers stopped 242 vehicles.
Captain Randy L. Becker, commanding officer of Troop I, stated, “Intoxicated drivers not only endanger their own lives, but also the lives of others. As a law enforcement officer, I believe sobriety spotchecks have done much to make our highways safer.”
