EMPHASIS: Radiation Monitor Installed At Weigh Station On Interstate 44 In Joplin, MO

Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, would like to inform the public of the following:

An Advanced Spectroscopic Portal radiation monitor has been installed at the D4-East weigh station, which is located on Interstate 44 in Joplin, MO. This monitor has the ability to detect and identify radiation. The D-4 East location was selected due to the high volume of truck traffic on that interstate highway. The Advanced Spectroscopic Portal will enhance Missouri's radiation and nuclear detection capabilities without adding to the workload of the Highway Patrol's employees. This installation is the result of a cooperative research and development agreement between the state of Missouri and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Domestic Nuclear Detection Office. There was no cost to the state of Missouri for this monitor, which went online January 28, 2013.
