Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the Memorial Day weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop I area, which consists of six counties in South Central Missouri.
During the Memorial Day weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6:00 p.m., May 28, 2010, and ended at 11:59 p.m., May 31, 2010, Troop I officers investigated 31 traffic crashes, which resulted in 10 injuries and one fatality. Troop I officers made four arrests for driving while intoxicated, issued 317 speeding citations and 88 seat belt summonses, and assisted 151 motorists.
Captain Kenley stated, “For most Missourians the 2010 Memorial Day weekend was an enjoyable experience and a great way to begin summer. But, for some, the weekend will always be remembered for the friend or family member who was either killed or seriously injured in a traffic crash. Please make a commitment to making the rest of your summer both safe and fun by always obeying the rules of the road."
