EMPHASIS: Troop C Totals For Independence Day Weekend

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces the Independence Day weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop C area. During the holiday weekend, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) and the "10-Mile Trooper" project. The 2010 Independence Day weekend traffic crash counting period began at 6 p.m., Friday, July 2, 2010, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Monday, July 5, 2010. The combined totals of both projects resulted in Troop C officers investigating 84 traffic crashes, 13 of which were alcohol related. There were no fatalities. Enforcement totals include 690 speed citations; 281 seat belt citations; 247 driver license, insurance, and registration citations; 97 other hazardous moving citations; and 69 other non-moving citations. A total of 1,528 warnings were issued during the counting period.

In addition, 10 felony and 62 misdemeanors arrests were made. Troop C officers made 39 DWI arrests and assisted 486 stranded motorists.

"Troop C, again, had no fatalities during this holiday counting period,” stated Captain Johnson. "I feel our outstanding enforcement effort and our visibility to the public contributed to this."
