EMPHASIS: Troop B Officers To Participate In Operation C.A.R.E. And 20-Mile Trooper Program During The 2011 Thanksgiving Holiday Period

Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces Troop B officers will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. during the 2011 Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) is a national traffic enforcement program aimed at making holiday weekends safer. During this enforcement operation, all available troopers will be assigned to patrol Missouri highways, not only aggressively enforcing traffic laws, but also to be available in the event motorists experience any type of emergency. In addition to Operation C.A.R.E., Troop B officers will conduct a "20-Mile Trooper" enforcement operation on U.S. Highway 61 throughout the Troop B area, and selected portions of U.S. Highways 24 and 36, on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, and Sunday, November 27, 2011. During this operation, officers will be assigned to 20-mile sections of those roadways in an effort to promote safety and reduce traffic crashes on the primary roadways in Troop B. Missouri is currently experiencing a nine percent reduction in traffic fatalities compared to the same period last year. The Patrol is committed to continuing crash and fatality reduction through our education and enforcement efforts.
"We expect many motorists to be travelling throughout Missouri over this holiday period," stated Captain Wilt. "Our goal is very simple: We want everyone to arrive at their destination safely. Please obey all traffic laws, ensure that everyone in your vehicle is properly restrained, and never drink and drive."
