EMPHASIS: Operation T.O.Y.S. (Take Our Youth Shopping)

Once again, local and state law enforcement agencies in the Cole and Callaway County areas will be participating in Operation T.O.Y.S. (Take Our Youth Shopping). This is a program where local officers from the Cole County Sheriff’s Department, Jefferson City Police Department, Holts Summit Police Department, Missouri Capitol Police, Missouri Department of Corrections, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol take children, who may not otherwise be able to have Christmas, shopping at the Jefferson City Kmart. Funding for this program is provided through fundraisers, and the generous donations from the Missouri State Troopers Association (Troop F, GHQ and Command chapters), the local chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Jefferson City Jaycees, staff donations at the Algoa Correctional Center, and the Jefferson City Kmart.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, December 20, 2008. The children will arrive at the Kmart parking lot at approximately 6:45 a.m., and will then watch as Santa arrives by helicopter, weather permitting, prior to beginning their shopping trip. The Jefferson City Kmart is located at 2304 Missouri Boulevard. The shopping should be completed by 8:00 a.m. The media is invited to come to the Jefferson City Kmart to observe, photograph, and video those participants involved.
