Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted from 9 p.m., August 29, 2008, until 3 a.m., August 30, 2008, on Missouri Highway 32, approximately 4.7 miles east of Lebanon, in Laclede County. During the six-hour period, troopers assigned to the checkpoint, with the assistance of the Laclede County Sheriff’s Department, stopped a total of 274 vehicles. The following is a list of enforcement contacts during the operation:
7 -- Seat Belt Violations
2 -- Non-Moving Traffic Offenses
3 -- Uninsured Motorist Violations
1 -- Misdemeanor Warrants
81-- Warnings
Captain Kenley stated, “Traffic crashes that are the result of an alcohol-impaired driver are completely preventable. It is a very positive sign when no DWI arrests are made during the course of a DWI checkpoint.” Captain Kenley would like to encourage all motorists who observe a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner to call the Missouri State Highway Patrol Emergency hotline at 1-800-525-5555 or *55 on a cellular phone to report the incident.
