EMPHASIS: Accidental Shooting

On December 1, 2008, at 9:20 p.m. a motorist traveling on U.S. Highway 169 south of King City accidentally shot his brother while being stopped for a traffic violation.
The trooper attempted to stop the 2003 Ford pick-up and noticed that it stopped erratically. The driver exited the truck and told the trooper that he had just accidentally shot his brother. The two brothers had apparently been hunting and had a loaded .22 rifle in the truck. While stopping for the trooper, the driver lifted the rifle to place it in the back seat when it fired, striking his brother in the temple. The victim was transported by ambulance to Heartland Regional Medical Center for treatment. Both the driver and victim are residents of St. Joseph.
The Troop H Division of Drug and Crime Control is currently investigating this incident.
