EMPHASIS: Results Of Commercial Motor Vehicle Selected Traffic Enforcement Operation Conducted By Troop B Officers

Captain John W. Elliott, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the results of a Commercial Motor Vehicle Selective Traffic Enforcement Operation conducted in Macon County.
On May 6, 2009, Troop B officers conducted a Commercial Motor Vehicle Selective Traffic Enforcement Operation on U.S. Highway 36, two miles east of Callao, Missouri, in Macon County. During the six-hour operation, eight Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers and three Missouri State Highway Patrol commercial motor vehicle officers, along with a Missouri State Highway Patrol canine, checked 155 commercial motor vehicles, and completed a total of 31 commercial motor vehicle safety inspections.
As a result of the enforcement operation, officers made two arrests, issued 23 citations, and issued 71 warnings. In addition, four commercial vehicles were placed out of service. Of the citations issued, two were issued for seat belt violations, 18 were issued for commercial motor vehicle violations, two were issued for non-moving violations, and one was issued for a license violation. Two individuals were arrested on misdemeanor warrants.
Employees of the Missouri Department of Transportation also assisted with the enforcement operation by providing traffic assistance with a warning truck and traffic cones.
“Ensuring that commercial motor vehicles traveling on Missouri highways are being operated properly is another important factor in keeping our highways safe,” stated Captain Elliott. “Troop B officers will be working with other local law enforcement agencies in other operations such as these throughout the upcoming year.”
