On October 2, 1993, Corporal Michael E. Webster was killed in the line of duty by a drunk driver, while standing next to a vehicle he had stopped for a traffic violation on U.S. Highway 40 in Blue Springs, Missouri. Since his untimely death, blood drives like this one have honored his service to the community. Someone is killed or injured in an alcohol-related crash every two hours in Missouri. Alcohol was involved in 30% of all fatal crashes during 2013. Drunk drivers killed 239 people and injured 3,804 in Missouri traffic crashes last year. The Webster family, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the American Red Cross want to encourage everyone to come out and support the Michael E. Webster Blood Drive.

In support of “The Drive To Zero Highway Deaths,” the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!
