EMPHASIS: June Enforcement Efforts Scheduled For Troop D

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces several enforcement operations that will be conducted sometime during the month of June 2015.

Troop D officers will conduct sobriety checkpoints in Greene and Taney counties. These efforts will concentrate on highways which have been found to have a high number of alcohol-related crashes and enforcement contacts. The sobering fact is that impaired driving contributes to more than 27 percent of all Missouri fatal traffic crashes. In 2013, 219 people were killed and 3,308 injured in crashes involving an impaired driver. That’s why the Missouri State Highway Patrol will join other Missouri law enforcement agencies to crack down on drunk driving throughout the month of June.

Additionally, the Patrol will be conducting a hazardous moving violation saturation in Barry and Greene counties. The primary goal of this project is to positively impact traffic safety by reducing crashes. The objectives are to heighten the awareness of the risks associated with impaired driving and increase compliance of the speed limit and seat belt laws.

Finally, troopers will target impaired boat operators by conducting a saturation on the Niangua River. These projects will also focus on hazardous boating, minors in possession of alcohol, and enforcing drug laws.

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
