EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Checkpoint In Clay County On June 21, 2014


Lieutenant Eric T. Olson, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted on Saturday evening, June 21, 2014. The checkpoint was a joint effort with the Kansas City Police Department. The checkpoint was held from 11 p.m. on Saturday to 4 a.m. on Sunday and was located at Missouri Highway 152 and Green Hills Road. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 678 cars were checked during this five-hour operation and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department made the following arrests:

14 -- DWI
1 -- driving while revoked summons
2 -- hazardous moving summonses
6 -- non-moving summonses
4 -- misdemeanor warrant arrests
1 -- misdemeanor drug arrest

Lieutenant Olson stated, "The focus of law enforcement is to enforce all laws and apprehend violators. The goal of DWI enforcement projects is to deter impaired driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated."

In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
