EMPHASIS: Troop I Announces July 4th Holiday Traffic Crash And Enforcement Summary

Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the July Fourth holiday traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop I area, which consists of six counties in South Central Missouri. From July 3, 2013 through July 7, 2013, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). During the peak travel periods on both July 3, 2013 and July 7, 2013, special enforcement operations also were conducted. These included the “20-Mile Trooper" project on Interstate 44 and other projects on the secondary highways.

Enforcement efforts through the holiday period resulted in 386 citations for exceeding the posted speed limit, 136 citations for seat belt violations, one citation for a child restraint violation, and the issuance of 812 warnings. Troopers also made 10 arrests for driving while intoxicated and 23 arrests for drug violations. During this holiday period, officers assigned to Troop I investigated 30 traffic crashes that resulted in 20 injuries and one fatality. There were also 249 motorist assists and other calls for service during this period.

Captain Kenley stated, “Whether through our enforcement efforts, responding to an emergency, or assisting someone who is in need, the Patrol’s motto of “Service and Protection” was again our objective over this holiday period. I hope your family was not touched by the tragic loss of life or injury that often occurs from either a vehicle or boating crash. Again, please keep safety in mind when you are traveling this summer and make each outing both a pleasant and memorable experience.”

The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
