EMPHASIS: 2013 Troop B Thanksgiving Holiday Enforcement And Traffic Crash Totals

Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the 2013 Thanksgiving holiday traffic crash and preliminary enforcement totals for the Troop B area, which consists of the 16 northeast counties of Missouri.
During the 2013 Thanksgiving weekend traffic crash counting period, which began on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at 6:00 p.m., and ended on Sunday, December 1, 2013, at 11:59 p.m., Troop B officers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). In addition to Operation C.A.R.E., Troop B officers participated in a 20-Mile Trooper enforcement operation on U.S. Highway 61 throughout the Troop B area, and selected portions of U.S. Highways 36 and 61, on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, and Sunday, December 1, 2013. During these operations, troopers investigated 23 traffic crashes, in which there were zero fatalities and 18 individuals injured.
Preliminary enforcement totals show Troop B officers made seven arrests for driving while intoxicated, seven arrests for drug violations, issued 312 citations for speed, 61 seat belt citations, and assisted 164 motorists. Troopers also issued 603 warnings.
“The Missouri State Highway Patrol takes holiday weekends very seriously,” stated Captain Wilt. “Taking the job of driving seriously, and remembering to buckle up, will help reduce the number of traffic crashes and fatalities in Missouri.”
The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
