EMPHASIS: Zero Fatalities In Troop D's 18-County Area During Memorial Day Holiday .

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer, Troop D, Springfield is pleased to announce zero fatalities occurred in the Troop D area during the Memorial Day holiday. The counting period began at 6 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2009, and lasted through 11:59 p.m. Monday, May 25, 2009. Troop D is comprised of 18 counties in southwest Missouri. During the holiday 15 people were arrested in Troop D for driving while intoxicated and troopers investigated 73 traffic crashes resulting in 33 injuries.

The 10-Mile Trooper project, Click-It-Or-Ticket, enforcement of traffic laws, and increased presence by troopers on our highways are credited to the zero deaths recorded in Troop D over the Memorial Day Weekend.

Captain Villanueva stated, “Although there were no fatalities in Troop D over the holiday weekend, unfortunately, seven people perished on Missouri highways. Be reminded to slow down, wear your seat belt, pay attention to the job of driving, and don’t drink and drive.”
