EMPHASIS: Troop A Increases Presence During Labor Day Holiday Travel Period

Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee’s Summit, announces increased enforcement during the Labor Day holiday travel period. Over the past several years, the Patrol has experienced great success in traffic crash and fatality reduction efforts on the interstate highways with the 10- and 15- Mile Trooper Operations on the heavily traveled holiday weekends. While the Patrol will still have a presence on the interstate highways throughout Missouri over the Labor Day holiday weekend, shifting some of those troopers to U. S. and secondary highways will give the Patrol a noticeable presence and afford the opportunity to expand the crash and fatality reduction to those corridors.
Missouri is currently experiencing a 9% reduction in traffic fatalities compared to the same time period last year, and the Patrol is committed to continuing crash and fatality reduction through our education and enforcement efforts. During this upcoming Labor Day holiday travel period, a trooper will be assigned to work 20-mile intervals on Interstates 70, 29, and 35. Troopers also will increase our presence on other selected highways throughout the troop, in order to provide a safe traveling environment.
“Our goal is to make traveling on Missouri’s highways safer for everyone,” stated Captain Robert L. Powell. “Remember to do your part. Obey the speed limit, pay attention to the job of driving, always buckle your seat belt, and if you are going to drink, please do not drive.”
Should you find yourself in need of assistance, or observe another motorist operating a vehicle in an unsafe manner contact your local law enforcement agency or contact the Missouri State Highway Patrol at 1-800-525-5555 or *55 on a cellular phone.
