EMPHASIS: Troop D Announces Results Of BWI Sobriety Checkpoint And Enforcement Saturations

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces the results of a DWI saturation in Barry County, a hazardous moving saturation in Greene County, and a BWI sobriety checkpoint conducted on Pomme De Terre Lake in Hickory County, on August 29-30, 2015. The goal of these enforcement operations was to detect intoxicated drivers or boaters, hazardous moving violations, driving over the speed limit, and other violations that contribute to traffic/boating crashes. Also, the enforcement locations were selected based on their high number of drinking and impairment-related traffic/boating crashes.

Troopers conducting the Barry County DWI saturation stopped 26 vehicles. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operation:

Speed Limit Citations -- 4
Seat Belt Violations -- 10
Child Restraint Violations -- 2
Driver’s License Violations -- 2
Uninsured Motorists Violations -- 3
Felony Warrant Arrest -- 1
Misdemeanor Warrant Arrest -- 1

A total of 150 boaters in 43 vessels were contacted at the BWI sobriety checkpoint operation conducted in Hickory County, near Nemo, MO, at the Missouri Highway 64 bridge on Pomme De Terre Lake. Members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol made the following enforcement contacts:

1 -- Boating While Intoxicated Arrest
7 -- Warnings

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Join us in supporting the Drive To Zero Highway Deaths. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!
