EMPHASIS: Troop I Announces Memorial Day Weekend Enforcement And Traffic Crash Totals

Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the Memorial Day weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop I area, which consists of six counties in south central Missouri. The enforcement operations included All American Buckle-Up Week and the (C.A.R.E.) Combined Accident Reduction Effort.
During the Memorial Day weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6 p.m., May 22, 2009 and ended at 11:59 p.m., May 25, 2009, Troop I officers investigated 31 traffic crashes, which resulted in 14 injuries, but no fatalities. Troop I officers also made five arrests for driving while intoxicated, issued 318 speeding citations, and issued 77 citations to individuals who were not wearing a seat belt. During that same time period troopers assisted 127 motorists.
During the period covering May 18, 2009 through May 25, 2009, the Patrol participated in the “All American Buckle Up” campaign. As a result of the campaign, Troop I officers issued 98 seat belt summonses and four citations for failure to properly secure a child in an approved child restraint seat.
Captain Kenley stated, “I am pleased that for the fifth year in a row there were no fatal traffic crashes within the Troop I area over the Memorial Day weekend. However, if we want to reduce the number of traffic crashes, all motorists must be committed to strictly obeying the rules of the road and to paying attention to the job of driving.”
