EMPHASIS: Troop I Officers To Participate In Statewide Holiday DWI Enforcement Campaign

Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces that Troop I officers will be participating in the statewide 2013 Holiday DWI Enforcement Campaign in an effort to stop people from driving while impaired this holiday season. Enforcement efforts will be increased from December 13, 2013 through January 4, 2014, and will focus on reducing deaths and injuries caused by impaired drivers.
Impaired drivers killed 231 people and injured 3,984 in Missouri in 2012. That year, there were 762 fatal traffic crashes, of which 215--or 28.2 percent--involved an alcohol- or drug-impaired driver. Those impaired rivers made a choice to endanger themselves and others. Thus far in 2013, alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers have killed 151 people and injured 2,019. Alcohol or drug impairment has accounted for 127 of the 523 fatal traffic crashes in Missouri. The Missouri State Highway Patrol strongly encourages everyone to make the right choice: Drive Sober.
Captain Kenley stated, “The holiday season is a joyous time for friends and families to gather as they celebrate. These celebrations may include alcohol, but they do not have to end tragically because of a poor decision to drink and drive. If drinking is a part of your plans, be responsible and choose a sober driver.”
The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
