EMPHASIS: Troop C Announces Driving While Intoxicated Checkpoint Results In Franklin County

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, St. Louis, is pleased to announce the results of a driving while intoxicated checkpoint that was conducted August 23, 2008, in Franklin County in conjunction with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department. During the four-hour enforcement project, 15 officers focused their attention on detecting intoxicated drivers that traveled through the checkpoint location in an effort to reduce the number and severity of traffic crashes.
As a result of the enforcement program, a total of 41 arrests were made and 61 warnings were issued. Of those arrests, nine individuals were arrested for driving while intoxicated and two were arrested on outstanding warrants. In addition, three were cited for speeding, three for seat belt violations, and three for hazardous moving violations. Fifteen subjects were charged with non-moving violations. Additionally, there were two felony arrests and four misdemeanor arrests made. During the four-hour operation, 307 vehicles passed through the checkpoint.
Captain Johnson stated, “Removing impaired drivers from our roadways is vital to reducing traffic crashes. Through the combined efforts of the law enforcement agencies and the motoring public, we can make an impact on reducing the number of traffic crashes and fatalities in the state. Drunk drivers cause too many traffic crashes and kill too many innocent people each year. Please remember to drive safely, wear your seat belt, and always designate a sober driver.”
