EMPHASIS: Sobriety Checkpoint To Be Conducted In St. Louis County

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces that a sobriety checkpoint will be held in St. Louis County sometime in the month of September 2011. The Missouri State Highway Patrol, in cooperation with other area law enforcement agencies, will conduct the checkpoint.

Sobriety checkpoints are part of the Patrol’s efforts to remove intoxicated drivers from Missouri’s highways, and are conducted at various locations which have been found to experience a higher than normal number of alcohol-related contacts and collisions.

Captain Johnson urges the public to report all impaired drivers. “Sobriety checkpoints are an innovative means of detecting and removing the alcohol-impaired driver from our highways,” states Captain Johnson. “Driving while intoxicated continues to be a major contributing factor of traffic crashes in Missouri.”

To report unsafe driving, motorists can use the Patrol’s emergency telephone numbers. They are 1-800-525-5555 or cellular *55.
