EMPHASIS: Lt. Sid Conklin Retires September 1, 2014


Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announces the following retirement:

Lieutenant Sid Conklin, assistant director of the Division of Drug and Crime Control, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, MO, is retiring effective September 1, 2014, after over 34 years of dedicated service in Missouri law enforcement.

Lieutenant Conklin was appointed to the Patrol on January 1, 1983, as a member of the 55th Recruit Class.

After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy, he was assigned to Troop B, Zone 6, Randolph and Monroe counties. In April 1988, Conklin served an internship with the Division of Drug and Crime Control as a bomb and arson investigator before returning to Troop B, Zone 6, Randolph and Monroe counties. In1990, he transferred to the Division of Drug and Crime Control as a narcotics investigator in Troops B, Macon, MO, and F, Jefferson City, MO. He was promoted to corporal on August 1, 1994; to sergeant on February 1, 2000. In October 2001, he transferred to the Organized Crime Unit within the Division of Drug and Crime Control. He was designated unit supervisor a month later. Conklin was promoted to the rank of lieutenant on January 1, 2005. He remained assigned to the Division of Drug and Crime Control, where he supervised the Organized Crime/Antiterrorism Unit; Violent Crime Support Unit; Intelligence Section; Motor Vehicle Bureau; Missing Persons Unit; and the Public Information and Education Unit. Conklin also provided training in narcotics and outlaw motorcycle gangs to recruit classes attending the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy.

Prior to joining the Patrol, Conklin served the public as an officer with the Mexico Department of Public Safety. He served as a deputy for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, and was a chief deputy in Monroe County at the time of his appointment to the Patrol.

Conklin was born in Mexico, MO, and graduated from Mexico Senior High School. He earned an associate’s of arts degree in general education from Moberly Junior College. Conklin also studied law enforcement at Northeast Missouri State University. He served in the U.S. Army from August 1972 until May 1979, at which time he was honorably discharged. He earned an Army Commendation Medal in 1977 and 1979.

Lt. Conklin has three sons, Jason, Joshua, and Jacob; five granddaughters; and a grandson.
