EMPHASIS: Troop I Releases Results Of DWI Saturation

Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the results of a DWI saturation patrol conducted in Phelps County from 7 p.m., May 10, 2013, until 3 a.m., May 11, 2013. During the operation, troopers placed special emphasis on patrolling those highways where in the past a higher number of impaired drivers were either involved in a traffic crash or arrested for DWI.
During the enforcement operation troopers stopped 34 vehicles, issued 34 warnings and either issued citations or made arrests for the following violations:

DWI (Felony): 1
Speed: 1
Seat Belt Violations: 9
Hazardous Moving Violations: 2
Non-Moving Traffic Offense: 1
Driver’s License Violations: 2
Uninsured Motorists: 1
Misdemeanor Warrant Arrests: 2
Felony Warrant Arrest: 1
Felony Arrest: 1

Captain Kenley stated: “During a recent sobriety checkpoint conducted in Phelps County, troopers issued 23 citations for failure to wear a seat belt. During this saturation, the number of seat belt violations is again notable. I strongly encourage all motorists to buckle up. We will continue to vigorously enforce this important law as both statistics and experience show that buckling up can save lives and prevent injuries in traffic crashes.”

The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
