EMPHASIS: Results Of A Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Operation In Troop D

Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces the results of a recent MCSAP (Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program) Commercial Vehicle Enforcement interdiction operation. The purpose of this effort was to reduce the number of commercial motor vehicle-related crashes, fatalities, and injuries through aggressive enforcement, education, and safety inspections.

This three-day enforcement effort was conducted September 15-17, 2015, and primarily focused on the high-crash counties in Troop D including: Greene, Lawrence, Newton, and Jasper counties. During this operation, commercial vehicle enforcement troopers and commercial vehicle officers inspected 426 commercial vehicles. They discovered 798 violations, placed 82 vehicles and 23 drivers out-of-service, and issued 147 citations.

"I appreciate the efforts of our officers. Citizens traveling through the state of Missouri benefited from this enforcement operation by the removal of unsafe drivers and vehicles from our highways," stated Captain Villanueva.

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
