EMPHASIS: 2014 Troop B Thanksgiving Holiday Enforcement And Traffic Crash Totals

Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces the 2014 Thanksgiving holiday traffic crash and preliminary enforcement totals for the Troop B area, which consists of the 16 northeast counties of Missouri.
During the 2014 Thanksgiving weekend traffic crash counting period, which began on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at 6:00 p.m., and ended on Sunday, November 30, 2014, at 11:59 p.m., Troop B officers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). In addition to Operation C.A.R.E., Troop B officers participated in a 20-Mile Trooper project on U.S. Highways 36, 61, and 63, on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, and Sunday, November 30, 2014. During these operations, troopers investigated 21 traffic crashes, in which there were zero fatalities and four individuals injured.
Preliminary enforcement totals show Troop B officers made five arrests for driving while intoxicated and two arrests for drug violations, issued 274 citations for speed and 47 seat belt citations, and assisted 205 motorists. Troopers also issued 509 warnings.
“The Missouri State Highway Patrol takes holiday weekends very seriously,” stated Captain Wilt. “Taking the job of driving seriously, and remembering to buckle up, will help reduce the number of traffic crashes and fatalities in Missouri.”
In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!
