EMPHASIS: Traffic Stop On I-70 Results In Drug Arrests

On January 26, 2008, at approximately 1:50 p.m., a member of the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped a Dodge Charger on Interstate 70 at the 36.8-mile marker in Lafayette County for speeding and displaying improper registration. Upon contacting the subjects in the vehicle, the trooper received consent to search the vehicle. Approximately four pounds of marijuana was recovered from under the driver and front passenger seats of the vehicle.
The driver, Mack Smith III, 47, and the three passengers, Torey A. Nelson, 22, Brenda M. Wilson, 20, and Frederino D. Robinson, 22, all of Jefferson City, Missouri, were arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. All four subjects were transported to the Lafayette County Jail.
The charges for which, Mack Smith III, Torey A. Nelson, Brenda M. Wilson, and Frederino D. Robinson were arrested are mere accusations and not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
