Troop F Announces Results Of Multi-jurisdictional DWI Sobriety Checkpoint In Camden County
Captain Michael A. Turner, commanding officer of Troop F, Jefferson City, announces the results of a multi-jurisdictional DWI sobriety checkpoint conducted in Camden County. The checkpoint was conducted from 11 p.m. on June 25, 2016, to 3 a.m. on June 26, 2016, on Business 54 at Horseshoe Bend Parkway/Missouri 242 in Camden County and involved the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Camden County Sheriff’s Department and Lake Ozark Police Department.
The STARS database indicated at least 376 drinking or drug-related traffic crashes occurred in Camden County since January of 2010, resulting in 21 fatalities and 266 injuries. A total of 896 vehicles were checked during this operation. Officers made the following enforcement contacts:
4 -- Misdemeanor DWI arrests
2 -- Felony DWI arrests
1 -- Minor in possession of intoxicants summons
1 -- Driving while suspended/revoked summons
2 -- Non-moving violation summons
61 -- Warnings issued
“The sobering fact is that impaired driving contributes to nearly 25 percent of all Missouri fatal crashes and they are all preventable." stated Captain Turner. "One of the most important values of a sobriety checkpoint is deterrence. We appreciate those who chose to designate a sober driver, or call a taxi. Driving while impaired is a conscious decision and the Missouri State Highway Patrol is committed to removing the impaired driver from our roadways through education, prevention and enforcement.”
The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober. “Don’t Violate The Trust.”
