EMPHASIS: Patrol Discourages Travel During Potential Snowstorm

Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, would like to remind the motoring public of the dangers of winter driving. Recent weather forecasts indicate a high probability of several inches of snow, which is predicted to begin as early as mid-morning of Tuesday, February 4, 2014, which could make traveling very treacherous. When winter weather strikes, the Patrol asks motorists to refrain from driving until road conditions improve unless travel is absolutely necessary. It is recommended that the public check road conditions before traveling by calling Missouri's Road Condition Report (1-888-275-6636) or by viewing MoDOT's Road Condition Map by going to the Patrol's web site at www.mshp.dps.mo.gov and clicking on the Road Condition icon.
If traveling becomes necessary, drivers are reminded of the poor road conditions and urged to drive at slow speeds, increase their following distance, and realize it will take more time to stop the vehicle. The Patrol would also like to remind motorists of the importance of wearing seat belts.
The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!
