EMPHASIS: Patrol Announces Sobriety Checkpoint In St. Charles County

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces that a sobriety checkpoint will be held in St. Charles County sometime in the month of March 2016. The Missouri State Highway Patrol, in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies, will conduct the sobriety checkpoint.

Sobriety checkpoints are a part of the Patrol’s efforts to remove impaired drivers from Missouri’s highways, and are conducted at various locations which have been found to experience a higher than normal number of alcohol-related contacts.

Captain Johnson says, "Driving while intoxicated checkpoints are a great tool in removing the impaired driver from Missouri's highways. If you suspect a motorist of driving while impaired, call the Missouri State Highway Patrol at the toll-free emergency number 1-800-525-5555 or *55."

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
