EMPHASIS: Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Arrests In Lafayette County
On May 9, 2008, at approximately 3:20 p.m., a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper stopped a 2008 Dodge Charger for a traffic violation on eastbound Interstate 70 at the 47.4 mile-marker in Lafayette County. Several inconsistencies were found during conversations with the driver and passenger prompting the trooper to ask for consent to search the vehicle, which the driver granted. Approximately one pound of marijuana, $646 in cash, a scale, and empty baggies were found in a backpack located in the vehicle.
The driver, Brandon M. Stanford, 26, of Jefferson City, Missouri, and a passenger, Robert K. Simpson, 28, of Kansas City, Missouri, were arrested for possession with intent to distribute and transported to the Lafayette County Jail.
The charges for which Brandon M. Stanford and Robert K. Simpson were arrested are mere accusations and not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence.
