EMPHASIS: Stolen Vehicle, Methamphetamine, and Weapons Seized During Traffic Stop In Callaway County

On June 19, 2007, an officer of the Missouri State Highway Patrol initiated a traffic stop for a vehicle registration violation. After receiving conflicting information from the driver, the officer requested permission to search the vehicle. The search revealed five plastic bags of methamphetamine and several weapons. The vehicle, a 1982 Chevrolet, was later identified as stolen. The traffic stop took place on S. Summit Drive at U.S. 54 East in Callaway County.
The driver, Dale S. Olten, 44, of Russellville, MO, and a passenger Billy R. Steele III, 45, of Russellville, MO, were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and tampering first degree. In addition, two firearms and several knives were located inside the vehicle. Olten and Steele were taken to the Callaway County Jail and released after posting bond.
The charges for which Olten and Steele have been arrested are mere accusation and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
