EMPHASIS: Troop A Memorial Day Weekend Enforcement Totals

Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, Lee’s Summit, announces the 2012 Memorial Day weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop A area, which is comprised of 13 counties in west central Missouri. During the holiday weekend, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort), and as an added enforcement effort, Troop A troopers also conducted a “20-Mile Trooper Operation” on Interstates 70, 470, 35, and 29, as well as U.S. Highways 50 and 71on Friday, May 25, 2012, and Monday, May 28, 2012.

During the 2012 Memorial Day weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6 p.m., Friday, May 25, 2012, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Monday, May 28, 2012, Troop A officers investigated 31 traffic crashes resulting in one fatality and 11 injuries. Preliminary enforcement totals show officers issued 423 summonses for speed, 125 summonses for seat belt violations, 1,040 warnings, made 30 arrests for driving while intoxicated, and assisted 394 stranded motorists.

Captain Powell stated, “The officers assigned to Troop A are committed to making our highways safe for our citizens, and citizens traveling through Missouri. Please take the job of driving seriously. Do not drink and drive, obey the speed limit, pay attention, and buckle up.”
