EMPHASIS: Courtesy Boat Inspections To Be Conducted On Mark Twain Lake And Mississippi River

Captain James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B, Macon, announces that Troop B marine operations troopers will conduct courtesy boat inspections on Mark Twain Lake and the Mississippi River as a part of National Safe Boating Week. National Safe Boating Week will take place from May 21, 2016 through May 27, 2016, to promote safe boat operation during the kick-off to the upcoming boating season.

On Saturday, May 21, 2016, officers will conduct courtesy boat inspections at the Ray Behrens Boat Ramp from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. On the same day, officers will conduct inspections at the Hannibal Marina Boat Ramp on the Mississippi River from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The goal of the boat inspection stations is to verify boaters have the required equipment on board their boat, provide a Patrol boat inspection sticker if the boater is in compliance, and to answer boating questions. There is no cost for those participating.

“The boating season is upon us and the Patrol is dedicated to promoting safety on our waterways,” stated Captain Wilt. “The upcoming boat inspections are a great way to insure you will be safe while enjoying the many lakes and rivers in our area.”

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
