EMPHASIS: Troop C Prepares For The Labor Day Holiday Travel Period

Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring, announces upcoming plans for Troop C officers to participate in Operation C.A.R.E. and special enforcement programs over the 2015 Labor Day Holiday.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) during the long holiday weekend. This means every available officer will be on the road enforcing traffic laws and assisting motorists. Additionally, Troop C officers will be conducting a special enforcement project on Interstate 70 and Interstate 44 throughout the Troop C area on Friday, September 4, 2015 and Monday, September 7, 2015. During this enforcement program, troopers will be targeting all traffic violations with a goal of reducing traffic crashes over the holiday weekend. Enforcement efforts on secondary roads within Troop C will be conducted during the same time frame.

The Labor Day weekend typically marks the end of the summer season. For many families this means traveling and spending time on various Missouri waterways. Thus far in 2015, Missouri is experiencing an increase in both traffic fatalities and drownings. While the Patrol is committed to reducing traffic fatalities and drownings through our enforcement and educational efforts, citizens are reminded to do their part. Pay attention to the job of driving, obey the speed limit, never drive impaired, and always use a seat belt! When in and around Missouri’s waterways wear a life jacket! Be a courteous boater and never drink if you’re going to operate a vessel. By following these simple guidelines you can make a difference and help reduce traffic fatalities and drownings.

Captain Johnson said, “For many Missourians this holiday weekend will mark the last family outing of the summer months. In order for you and your loved ones to enjoy this time, you must place an emphasis on safety. Inattention, failing to observe the speed limit, and driving while impaired are contributing factors in most all crashes and each can easily be avoided. So, please buckle up and drive as if your life and everyone else’s life depends upon you, because it does.”

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Join us in supporting the Drive To Zero Highway Deaths. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!
