EMPHASIS: Courtesy Boat Inspections To Be Conducted At Lake Of The Ozarks

Captain Michael A. Turner, commanding officer of Troop F, Jefferson City, announces that Troop F marine operations troopers will conduct courtesy boat inspections on Lake of the Ozarks as a part of National Safe Boating Week. National Safe Boating Week will take place from May 21, 2016 through May 27, 2016, to promote safe boat operation during the kick-off to the upcoming boating season.

Troopers will conduct courtesy boat inspections from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at four locations on Lake of the Ozarks. The inspection locations are:

Lake of the Ozarks State Park, Public Beach #2

Lodge of the Four Seasons Resort, 315 Four Seasons Drive, Lake Ozark, 13-mile marker of the main channel

Tan-Tar-A Resort, 498 Tan-Tar-A Drive, Osage Beach, 26-mile marker of the main channel

Pirates Point, 64 Water Court, Sunrise Beach, 35-mile marker of the main channel

At the request of the vessel owner, troopers will perform a quick, but thorough, inspection for items such as required safety equipment. Those who are not in compliance with safety regulations or registration requirements will not be ticketed during the courtesy inspections. Upon successful completion of the inspection, the vessel owner is awarded a safety inspection decal that signifies compliance with Missouri boating equipment requirements. Troopers will also be available to answer boating questions.

“We would like to remind the public that throughout the season, troopers will perform a courtesy inspection on the water if you wave them over and request one,” stated Captain Turner. “The upcoming courtesy boat inspections are a great way to insure you will be safe while enjoying Lake of the Ozarks.”

Approximately 63 percent of Missouri fatal crash victims who are required to be restrained are NOT at the time of the traffic crash. The Patrol urges motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
