EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Sobriety Checkpoint In Newton County


Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces the results of a DWI checkpoint conducted in Troop D, Newton County, on April 26, 2013. During the operation, officers were assigned to conduct a sobriety checkpoint in a continued effort to remove intoxicated drivers from the highways. The following is a list of enforcement contacts made during the operation:

15--Failure To Wear Seat Belt Citations
2-- Child Restraint Citations
7-- Driver License Violations
2-- Insurance Violations
2-- Non-Moving Traffic Offenses
1-- Hazardous Moving Violation
1-- Minor In Possession Violation
4-- Drug Arrests
6-- Misdemeanor Warrant Arrests
1-- Felony Warrant

Troopers also issued 63 warnings for various other traffic violations during the operation.

The objective of DWI enforcement projects is to deter drinking and driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated. The Missouri State Highway Patrol urges all citizens to report any vehicle they observe operating in a careless manner. The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!
