EMPHASIS: Troop I Announces Thanksgiving Holiday Traffic Crash & Enforcement Totals



Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the Thanksgiving weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop I area, which consists of six south central counties in Missouri. The five-day counting period began at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2010, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Sunday, November 28, 2010.
During the five-day, 2010 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Troop I officers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). While participating in this operation, Troop I officers investigated 53 traffic crashes, which resulted in 15 injuries and no fatalities. Troopers also made two alcohol-related arrests for DWI, one drug-related arrest for DWI, and six arrests for drug offenses. Troop I officers also issued 254 citations for speed, 77 for failure to wear a seat belt, and five for not having a child in a proper passenger restraint system. Over the extended holiday period, troopers also issued 601 warnings for various traffic offenses and assisted 175 motorists.
Captain Kenley stated, “The winter holidays are here and many Missourians will be traveling to visit family and friends. I want to take this opportunity to encourage motorists to be extra cautious on our highways. Please keep in mind that the best way to avoid a traffic crash is to always pay attention, slow down, and to never drive while impaired.”
