EMPHASIS: Results Of DWI Checkpoint In Jackson County On May 9, 2014


Captain Robert L. Powell, commanding officer of Troop A, announces the results of a sobriety checkpoint conducted from 11 p.m. on Friday, May 9, to 4 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014. The checkpoint, located at 13915 E. U.S. Highway 350, was a joint effort with the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department. The location was determined by past arrests, incidents, and traffic crashes in the county.

A total of 627 vehicles were stopped during this five-hour operation. Members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department made the following arrests:

12 -- DWI
4 -- driver’s license summonses
5 -- non-moving traffic violations
5 -- hazardous moving violations
3 -- misdemeanor drug arrests
1 -- felony drug arrest
6 -- misdemeanor warrant arrests
1 -- minor-in-possession arrest

Captain Powell stated, "The focus of law enforcement is to enforce all laws and apprehend violators. The goal of DWI enforcement projects is to deter impaired driving and to make citizens aware that drinking and driving will not be tolerated."

In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.
